Sketch Sarah

Draw Sarah using the descriptions in the first two books, Sarah's Wish and Sarah’s Promise.

There are several descriptions of her features scattered throughout the books. Look for clues such as: hair color and style, height, facial features, etc.  She is never described in great detail so the artist will have freedom of imagination to come up with her likeness where details are missing.

Sarah is 12 in Sarah's Wish and 13 in Sarah's Promise. For the contest draw her at age 14.

Rules for determining the winner of the contest are simple: If I like your drawing best--you win.

The contest will begin immediately after the release of Sarah's Promise. Keep checking Sarah's Web or sign up for her newsletter and receive more information and contest rules as they are released.

Name The Riverboat

While the first contest is limited to people with artistic ability this one will be fun for anyone. All you need to do is come up with a name for the riverboat Sarah will take down the Ohio River in her next adventure, Sarah’s Escape.

In Sarah's Wish she took the River Blade to Louisville. She will not be on the River Blade this time, so that name cannot be used. Any other will be welcomed for the contest.

This contest begins on January 23 at Amelia Earhart Elementary School in Goddard, Kansas. Deadline for entries is November 30, 2008.

Contest Prizes

1. Name the Riverboat – the person with the best name for a riverboat will have that name used for the boat Sarah takes down the Ohio River in her next adventure, Sarah’s Escape.

2. Sketch Sarah – the person who best draws Sarah using the descriptions in the first two books, Sarah Wish and Sarah’s Promise, will have his or her sketch placed in the third book, Sarah’s Escape.

There will be 3 divisions for each contest: 12 years and below, 13 – 19, and 20 years and above. Each division will have a winner with the Grand Prize winner of each contest picked from those three. The Grand Prizes, of course, are to have the winning name on the riverboat and to have the winning sketch in the next book.

All six winners will have their names placed in the acknowledgements of Sarah’s Escape and receive personalized, autographed copies of all three Sarah books.

As an incentive to enter the contests all participants will have an opportunity for one of four bonus prizes. Four names will be selected from all of the entrants and those names will be given to four characters in the author’s fourth book. The fourth book is yet to be titled. This will be an opportunity for anyone who takes the time to enter either contest or both to have a character named after them.

Rules

I'm thinking! Let's see...hmm.

Well, there won't be many, why complicate it?

Okay, there is a major rule that will be enforced--do your own work. We will have ways in place to verify all winning sketches have been done by the participants.

**The winning entries become the property of Author Jim Baumgardner for use in the book, Sarah’s Escape. There are no monetary payments or prizes for the sketches or riverboat names. All prizes are listed on Sarah’s Web.

There will be only one winning sketch in each age division (12 and below, 13-19, 20 and above) with the Grand Prize winner picked from those three.

Name the Riverboat could produce more than one winning entry. If the winning name comes from more than one person all winners will have their names published in the acknowledgements of Sarah's Escape. All of the winners' names will be placed in a hat or maybe a box, and the name drawn will receive the autographed books.

Check out that last paragraph in the blue box to the left. You may be one of the lucky four with a great name to use for a character in my fourth book. Be sure and enter the contests!

**There may be some rules I haven't thought of yet, so stay tuned. I may have to add another. I hope not. Let's keep it simple.
